Created in 2004, XDC is a global provider of digital cinema solutions in Europe. XDC manages operations for the deployment of digital cinema systems in theaters, as well as preparing and delivering digital content which is distributed in cinemas. XDC also manufactures advanced digital cinema products: servers, theatre management systems, central libraries, and more.
XDC is the Official Partner of the Cannes and Locarno Film Festivals for digital cinema, and a founding and active member of the European Digital Cinema Forum. The company has offices in Belgium, Germany, Spain and France.

Tighter integrated solution needed
Prior to their DevSuite implementation, XDC managed test cases and testing as well as internal application development using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and a limited web-based solution for incident management. Additionally, they managed requirements using a combination of Microsoft Word and Excel. Their organization needed a fully integrated solution for requirements, test cases, test and incident management.
This move was needed to enforce the implementation of professional test methodologies, based on the ISTQB certification.
Finding a solution
When XDC began looking for a new solution, they scanned through all the online test magazines and communities as well as going conducting a series of discussions with external testers to find the best possible solutions. XDC had a long list of must have functionality for their new system including features such as requirements, test cases, testing and incident management.
They also needed full traceability from requirements to testing via test cases and incident logs. Other important areas for XDC were the ability to customize the system and workflows to their in-house environment. In addition, the new system also had to manage their user profiles with associated privileges and rights.
XDC shortlisted three options to take their development to the next level: TechExcel DevSuite, HP Quality Centre and an internally developed in-house solution. After a full and thorough evaluation, they decided on TechExcel.
